Online Marketing with Professional Video

This blog post is to go over the free and easy steps you can take to maximize a video’s reach online. Basically, we produce a professional video(s) for your business, now what do you do with it? It takes a concerted effort to compete with the vast ocean of other video content, all competing for attention. While we briefly touch on paid methods, the majority of what you can and should do in that area is covered by a one-on-one consultation with our online marketing expert. Keys for YouTube

First, we discuss what elements each video you upload should have in order to maximize its organic reach on YouTube, as well as potentially Google search results. YouTube is owned by Google and therefore sometimes takes it into account when prioritizing what appears in search results, potentially in place of certain web pages. Click on the images on the left, in order, to see an example of how the important fields should be filled out. We’re currently using our own 2024 video reel for reference.

  • Title should contain both your name, for identification purposes but also a generic way of describing your product or service. What would someone type into Google to find you, without knowing that you already exist? That should be the fundamental question you ask yourself for every section when optimizing your video.

  • The description should also have generic ways to describe what you do and/or offer. In other words, since we are a video production company, we describe ourselves as such or perhaps as a videographer, as opposed to just “Ethos Media”. Your description should also have relevant links to your website and social media, your service area (if that matters), as well as anything else that’s important for viewers to know.

  • A well-designed thumbnail just gives a good first impression to viewers and may be the key to getting a click on YouTube search results versus your competition listed next to you.

  • If you have more than one video, you should definitely be building out playlists that are also labeled with search engine optimization in mind, just like a video’s individual title and description. We do a lot of event videography, for example, so we have an event videography playlist with relevant content.

  • If your video is not going on YouTube Kids, and it’s highly likely it isn’t, be sure to check “No, it’s not made for kids”. We’re guessing you’re not uploading NSFW content either, so you don’t need to restrict viewership to 18 or older. Paid promotion is if you have a separate sponsor for your video that you specifically call out via graphics and/or verbally. If you’re uploading a marketing video, chances are it’s all about you, so there’s no need to check the “Paid Promotion” box.

  • Altered content refers to AI-generated images within your video that, as the description points out, alters people or places to appear to be real when their depiction actually is not. If you’re not using generative AI, and you frankly shouldn’t be, you can confidently check “no” on this.

  • The keyword section is a place where you can stuff the heck out of the box with keywords relevant to what your video is showcasing including, but not limited to, what it actually is, what it sounds like, where you’re located, related keywords, etc.

  • You can also state, in the “video location” section, where your business is located so that you’re more likely to show up in local search results when someone types in the city name.

Social Media Usage

In terms of the video’s design, which we can certainly assist you with during the production process, there are a few rules of thumb. Keep it short, sometimes no longer than a 60-90 seconds to qualify as a reel. Vertically-oriented video, which can mean 9×16, 4×5 or 1×1 aspect ratio, is also generally preferred for the mobile device crowd, though it can also be in traditional 16×9 as well. Finally, keep it entertaining or profound. Social media platforms are designed for leisure, so if your content doesn’t even keep you entertained, chances are, it won’t keep anyone else’s interest either.

  • Your primary video should be “featured” on your social media profile, or pinned, so that it always becomes the first thing that anyone sees when visiting your page. Pay special attention to what you write in the first two sentences as that may be the only thing a potential viewer reads when deciding whether or not to click on your video.

  • A good description that contains links is key. Links make it so that viewers following up with you is convenient and easy. So platforms like Facebook also provide you with the opportunity to add a call-to-action button as well or additional links that appear at the end of your video. Take advantage of that! Note: If your video is not boosted or paid to expand its reach, you should plan on posting it, with a unique description each time, on a routine basis. Un-boosted posts only get shown to a portion of your viewing audience each time.

  • You can also add additional media including photos or other videos to appear along side your primary video. If you had us create multiple videos that are related but cover different topics, it’s not a bad idea to post them together. If there are other pages you can tag in your post, that only goes toward increasing the post’s organic reach.

  • On this page, you can give your video a title, which makes it searchable on your profile page and helps viewers better understand what they’re looking at when browsing through the video section of your profile. As mentioned previously, you can also add tags, if appropriate, add captions (which we can produce for you), and change the thumbnail image. A good thumbnail image is important on social media profiles just like on YouTube.

Other Tips

You should look for any third party websites to list your video on. For us, we have listings on Videographies.com, ProductionHub, and others. It also doesn’t hurt to embed or link to your video if you do mass email marketing, as that is a convenient way to get right to your existing customer base. Additionally, downloading a copy of your video and having it on display during tradeshows, in your office lobby, or other places where it can be passively viewed is a convenient and easy way to get additional eyeballs on the content. Online marketing with professional video is a time commitment in addition to financial, but as the method that can get the most across in the least amount of time, it can be a game-changer just like it was for American Eagle as of the time of this post.
